I am very comfortable with many of the ELA standards, the ones that deal with writing and developing those skills including ones meant to develop vocabulary. I am espeically excited about:
LAFS.910.RI.3.7 Analyze various accounts of a subject told in different mediums (e.g., a person’s life story in both print and multimedia), determining which details are emphasized in each account
because the standard exactly outlines the reason I want to become a teacher and what I want to accomplish from becoming one, in the sense that I want my students to examine others lives to develop sympathy, but also understand how different mediums and outlets affect the message being presented. However I am worried about including highly internet and computer based projects as that might limit certain students, or require too much classroom time dedicated to the computers due to students limited access. A teacher warned me during my observation that anything that needs technology takes 2 times longer than expected or needed. I also am worried about how to make these standards relevant and interesting to my students.
The resources in the grade 9 educator toolkit are extremely helpful because they pool together resources and examples that are approved and work well so every lesson doesn't require hours of research and development for examples. I would use the provided lesson plans to model my own and to use. My biggest worry in terms of becoming a Teacher is preparing classes that work, make sense, and are the best for my students, having other teacher's examples to guide me takes a mountain off my back and allows me to learn better ways to make my own, and develop myself as a teacher.
While working on my Newsletter Design assignment I learned more about how to format and what information to include. I also learned a lot of sources to find educational templates and designs from other teachers who have released their own pieces. I am certified in Microsoft office so I didn't learn any new skills in word. I did not like how many issues I had with formatting, every time I blinked there was a new issue on my newsletter, whether text disappeared, word crashed, or pictures moved into spaces they shouldn't have been, nothing went as easy as it should have been, but I had enough skills to fix them. Next time I will start and end on the same computer because that is what caused me the most formatting issues. Below is the final project! I am very happy with it, and will save it to eventually send on!
