Microsoft Word has defined my entire academic career. Nearly every assignment or essay I have written has been on MS Word. I have also been in several classes that have taught me how to use MS Word beyond an essay. In 9th grade I became certified in Microsoft Office, including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and its other programs, it is safe to say I am very well versed in MS Office. My teachers have used it to write outlines for our assignments and design lesson plans, and other handouts.
To a certain extent copyright is ignored in classes below the collegiate level. I never really recall being taught what photos I could or couldn't put in a presentation or assignment, and I never paid attention to the question of whether or not my teachers did as well. As a teacher, especially in our current technology heavy classes, being aware of copyright, and usage laws and materials will be critical. Many teachers share their lesson plans online, but it is important that those who need to be credited, are. If students are creating and sharing their own works, then they need to learn how to protect those works, and properly create them. I would probably spend a day at the beginning of the year explaining copyright, its importance, and how it will be applied in the class, as well as having reminders of copyright on the assignment handouts.
Academic honesty is vital to the education and integrity of a student, and academic DIShonesty is very prevalent. in my classroom, every assignment will go through turn-it-in.com, and I will try to have unique assignments. Privacy is so important, students data is very sensitive and should only be available to those who need it to assist the student. In order to protect student's data education apps and software should all be vetted, and ensured to protect their data, as well as their own identities. Social Media does not only exist outside the classroom, students use it to interact in and out of school, for good or bad. Cyberbullying will never be tolerated with my students, bullying of any form for that matter will not be tolerated. I will monitor media usage within my class, but also take any complaints seriously, and have a form students can submit to report any issues.
